We built a connector so your AI assistant can work with the documents in your pdf.net library. It's free. Here's what it handles today and how to connect it.

"Replace Old Corp with New Corp everywhere, and set the effective date to May 1, 2026."

One message, and Claude or ChatGPT walks through the contract and changes every match. The same chat can fill in a form, turn one line of text into an invoice, merge a stack of PDFs into one, or find the contract that renews automatically. It all happens in your pdf.net library, and you never leave the chat.

makes that possible. It gives Claude and ChatGPT direct access to your library, so the chat works as an AI PDF editor. And it's free.

The pdf.net editor opens inside the chat. Your document loads there first. Then Claude or ChatGPT changes paragraphs one at a time, keeping the original fonts where it can. Give the result a quick read before you send it.

Text in any paragraph, plus alignment (left, center, right), line height, and first-line indent

Pages: add, remove, duplicate, or reorder them

Styling inside a line: bold, italic, superscript, and subscript

You don't have to point at paragraphs. "Update the dates on these invoices and change our address to the new one" is enough. Finding them is its job.

Type "Payment invoice, Acme LLC, $15,000, software development, October 2026" and a PDF comes back. That's the whole prompt. If you need more control, write more: which clauses go in, what language, how formal. It works as an AI PDF generator for invoices and contracts, or for anything else you can describe. The file goes to your library. Ask for a download link when you need one.

For invoices, this has been a lifesaver. I work with a lot of contractors, so I need a lot of invoices. I upload my

and a table with everyone's details, then go do something else. A couple of minutes later, there are 10 to 15 named invoices ready, each with the data I need. Basically, mail merge for PDFs.

The file tools work from chat too, with these limits:

Merge: 2 to 20 documents, up to 100 MB combined

Split: up to 50 page ranges per call, numbered from 1, where "6-z" means page 6 to the end

Convert: 18 formats, including DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, EPUB, CSV, PNG, and JPG. When one PDF becomes many files, you get a ZIP

Download links: single-use, expire after 10 minutes

Import from a URL: the link has to lead to the file itself, with no login page in the way

Merge, split, compress, and imports never touch the original. Each saves a new document, so if you retry, expect a duplicate. Edits in the editor are different: they change the document itself.

The connector sees your whole pdf.net library. It can make folders, move files between them, rename, copy, and delete. To organize PDF files, one line does it: "Create folders for Contracts, Invoices, and Reports, then sort what's here by type."

Search works on meaning rather than exact words. Think

, but over the whole library. Ask which contracts renew automatically, and the answer comes with up to 10 matching pages, grouped by document. You can narrow it to a few files if you want. It only covers documents pdf.net's AI has already read, such as ones you've used in AI chat on pdf.net, so a fresh upload may not show up.

Careful with folders, though. Delete one and everything inside goes to trash too. You can get it back from trash in pdf.net in the browser.

account. The connector can't see your email, your calendar, or anything else you've connected. Only the library.

Access: tools only work inside the account you signed in with. Other people's documents are out of reach

Encryption: TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest

Your documents: pdf.net doesn't sell them or use them to train AI models. What Claude or ChatGPT reads falls under Anthropic's or OpenAI's terms

Disconnecting: any time, from the same settings you used to connect

Some things still need the pdf.net editor in your browser: signing and signature requests, annotations of any kind (freehand, shapes, highlights, images), page numbers, passwords, public links, adding or moving form fields, and inviting collaborators. Ask for one in chat, and you'll get a link that opens the document there.

In order to compress a PDF on an iPhone, you can

zip the file in the Files app or run it through an online compressor in Safari

Compression matters because email services often reject large attachments, and scanned documents balloon fast. This guide walks you through both above-mentioned methods, shows how much size you can realistically save, and covers email tips and fixes for stubborn files!

The Files app wraps a PDF in a ZIP archive, so it bundles files but rarely helps you reduce PDF size on iPhone by much.

An online compressor trims the image data inside the file, which is where most of the weight sits.

Your savings depend on page count, image resolution, and whether the PDF is a scan.

Check your email provider's attachment limit first, then compress a PDF for email on iPhone before you attach it.

If the file stays large, split it into parts or send a link instead of an attachment.

Let’s have a look at the six factors that set the ceiling.

For example, a 20-page scan saved at high resolution can pass 25 MB, while the same pages at a lower resolution often fit under that limit. A text-only contract starts small and changes little, but if you still want to know how to reduce PDF size on iPhone without hurting quality,

How to Compress PDF on iPhone: 2 Great Methods That Work

Turn your Word document into an interactive PDF with fillable fields

If you want to learn how to create a fillable PDF from Word, we teach you all about doing so in a quick and easy way, all in your browser!

You can create a fillable PDF from Word by

building your form in Word, saving it as a PDF, and adding interactive fields in a PDF editor

. Given that Word can't carry its own form controls into a PDF, the editor handles that last step.

Fillable forms save everyone from printing, handwriting, and scanning. Besides this, they also reduce errors since readers type into clearly marked boxes instead of guessing where answers belong, which is often an issue with printed ones.

Today, our focus will be on how the process of creating these works, so we’ll learn which field types you can use and how to fix some common issues that may emerge. Read on!

Word can't export its own form controls, so you first need to design the layout in Word and add the fields in a PDF editor.

Six field types (text, checkbox, list, select, date, and signature) cover most forms.

Clear labels, a logical tab order, and a final test will make your form easy to complete.

Errors such as misaligned fields and dead checkboxes usually come from layout shifts or typed symbols.

, but it typically takes two tools instead of one. While Word itself builds the form's layout, a

turns that layout into fields readers can type into, check, or sign.

Here's the explanation: when you export a Word file, the document becomes a fixed page. The text and tables survive, but nothing on the page responds to clicks or typing. To turn a PDF into a fillable PDF, you need to place form fields over the blanks so that each field becomes a

Now, if you're wondering how to make a Word document fillable inside Word itself, you should know that content controls and legacy form fields work while the file stays in Word. Recipients without Word, or on a phone, often can't use them. Meanwhile, a PDF opens almost everywhere, which is why most forms end up in that format.

; each takes a few minutes, and you don't need design skills.

Start with a blank document and type every label, such as

. You can use a table to line up labels and blank spaces, then hide the borders for a cleaner look.

Then, leave generous room for each answer (because typed text needs more space than you'd expect), keep fonts consistent, and mark checkbox spots with small empty squares.

and tick the box for document structure tags, which helps screen readers.

This export is the first half of the job to convert Word to a fillable PDF; let’s see the next step, which adds the interactivity.

Once you do so, you should upload the file you want to modify, and then add fillable fields to the PDF by choosing a field type and placing it over each blank. It’s possible to resize every field to match its space and give each one a clear name, which you can repeat until every blank has a matching field.

When you are done adding all the fields, click on

in the upper right corner. You can save the final document as a PDF, or in another format, if needed (e.g., PPTX,

After that, open the finished file in a browser and in a second

. Click through each field, type sample answers, tick every box, and press

Finally, as soon as you fix anything odd, just save a clean copy and

Which Field Types Can You Add to a Fillable PDF?

You can add six field types to a fillable PDF, and these are:

give people a spot to draw, type, or upload their signature before they send the file out.

It holds names, addresses, and short answers; you can set the font size so longer entries still fit.

This type usually shows a drop-down menu of options, such as a department or country, that readers can pick instead of typing.

A checkbox lets readers tick every option that applies; if someone ticks one by mistake, they can

This one accepts a date in one consistent format, such as MM/DD/YYYY.

It presents a pick-one group of choices, like

Mixing these types is how you make a PDF form editable and also

Place text boxes, checkboxes, and signature fields right in your browser with no downloading or scanning required.

Why Don't Word Content Controls Stay Fillable in a PDF?

Word content controls don't stay fillable in a PDF

because Word's export flattens them into static text

, that a standard Word export doesn't write, so each control turns into plain, unclickable text.

This is similar to printing a spreadsheet; you keep the numbers, but the formulas disappear. Word does the same with form controls, so the layout does survive, but the interactive logic doesn't. Some desktop plug-ins can carry certain controls across, but results vary by version and setup; still, a PDF editor skips that risk by building native fields into the PDF itself.

This table shows what happens to common Word elements on export, and what to do about it.

7 Essential Tips for Making a Fillable PDF Easy to Use

Here are some valuable tips that will make your PDFs easier to use regardless of whether you create a fillable PDF form from Word once or every now and then:

Put a visible label beside each blank so readers never wonder what goes where.

should move readers left to right and top to bottom, the way they read the page.

Don't assume a fillable PDF automatically validates every answer. For example, the IRS notes that its own fill-in forms

, so you should spell out formats like MM/DD/YYYY near the field.

For instance, a last name needs a wider box than a ZIP code, and cut-off text typically frustrates people, so this is the most suitable way to handle it.

A drop-down menu prevents typos in answers such as state or department.

Clear labels and tagged structure let screen readers announce each field. The federal guide on

makes a solid checklist that covers the basics.

Add an asterisk and a one-line note at the top so no one submits an incomplete form.

Troubleshooting 3 Common Fillable PDF Problems

And finally, to wrap this up, here are the three most common problems related to fillable PDFs and how to fix each one.

#1. Why Is a PDF Not Fillable After Converting It From Word?

A PDF isn't fillable after you convert it from Word

because the export keeps only the page's appearance

. No interactive fields come along, so the document stays static until you add them in an editor.

To solve this, open the file in an editor and place a field over each blank; you can always add fillable fields to PDF pages again after a re-export. If you often create fillable PDF forms from Word, you should keep the Word file as your master copy and re-export after every edit.

#2. Why Are the Fillable Fields Misaligned?

when the page layout shifts after conversion

, or margins move the text underneath your fields, so boxes no longer sit on their blanks.

Here, it’s best to embed fonts during export and use tables rather than repeated spaces to line things up. Once you do so, check every field's position after conversion; if you edit the text later, recheck the fields nearby, because even one extra line can push everything down.

when it's only a typed symbol or a drawn square

. Those shapes belong to the page's picture, and they aren't interactive fields.

To make a PDF form editable at the checkbox level, you can place a real checkbox field over each square and click it in preview mode to confirm it toggles on and off.

In conclusion, a fillable form is typically about

a clean Word layout, a careful export, and the right fields on top

. Once you've done it properly one time, the process will feel routine, and your readers skip the printer entirely.

We recommend you keep your Word file as the master, test every field before you share, and fix problems early. If you're still unsure about the tool you should use, you can simply upload your file to pdf.net and add your first field today!

Learn how to remove annotations from PDF files with a PDF editor, Preview, or a browser. Delete comments, highlights, and sticky notes fast.

The answer to the “How to remove annotations from a PDF?” question is to use a PDF editor or a built-in viewer such as Mac Preview or Chrome to access the document and delete any annotations. PDF annotations refer to the comments, highlights, or notes that are added to a document to provide feedback on its content.

They are often used in collaborative settings like universities or the workplace, allowing teams to work together on a document without changing its original content. However, once they have served their purpose, you can remove them from the file.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through three ways to remove them, plus what to do with scanned PDFs.

Live annotations (comments, highlights, sticky notes and drawings) can be deleted in most PDF editors and viewers.

A dedicated PDF editor is best for bulk and by-type removal, while Mac Preview and browsers work for quick fixes on a few annotations.

Marks on scanned or flattened PDFs are part of the page image, so they need an image-editing or redaction workaround instead of a simple delete.

Hiding an annotation isn’t deleting it, and hidden comments can still be in the file.

Save a copy before you start, because deleted annotations usually can’t be restored once the file is saved.
